Wave tensile car shades

Fabric sails stretched between posts and held taut by steel wire rope, rising and falling in waves. No roof frame, just posts, cable and fabric.

What is a tensile car shade?

A wave tensile car shade is made of fabric sails stretched between posts of alternating heights and held taut by steel wire rope along the edges. Because the fabric is pulled into saddle shapes, it needs no roof frame, handles wind well and looks light and architectural. One post stands between each pair of cars.

Best for

  • Offices, malls and public spaces that want a striking, light look
  • Car parks where a framed roof would feel heavy
  • Clients who want architectural fabric such as Ferrari mesh

At a glance

  • No roof frame: posts, wire rope and fabric only
  • Alternating high and low corners create the wave
  • One post between each car, front and back
  • Ferrari PVC mesh in green, blue or rust red

How it is built

Each sail is patterned and welded in our workshop to the exact shape between its posts.

  • Steel posts cast into concrete, alternating high and low along the row
  • Fabric sails cut so they pull into a saddle shape when tensioned
  • Steel wire rope running in a pocket along every edge
  • Corner plates and tensioners at each post to keep the fabric taut
  • Regular checks of tension in the first weeks as the fabric settles

Covers and colours

Tensile designs need fabric made to be stretched.

  • Ferrari PVC mesh in green, blue or rust red, our recommended choice
  • PVC for full rain protection
  • Acrylic canvas for a soft, premium finish

Wave tensile questions

Do tensile car shades need a roof frame?

No. The fabric itself carries the load once tensioned between the posts and edge cables. That is what gives tensile shades their light look.

Are tensile shades waterproof?

PVC and acrylic sails keep rain off. Ferrari mesh is open-weave, so it gives strong shade and airflow but lets some rain through.

Why are the posts different heights?

Alternating high and low corners pull each sail into a saddle shape. That keeps the fabric taut, sheds water and wind, and creates the wave look.

Which colours does Ferrari mesh come in?

Ferrari PVC mesh is available in green, blue and rust red.
